Ok, not all my posts are technical, informative or even coherent. This is probably one of them, but I am excited about my bags of crap.
Let me back up a sec. If you’ve never been to www.woot.com, you might want to take a gander. They sell one thing a day. It’s usually electronic in nature and at a very good price. If it sells out, it says “Sold Out” until Midnight when another product comes on. Sometimes the product doesn’t sell out, so there’s a few left over.
After a while, about every 2-3 months, woot has a woot-off. This is where they sell all the leftover stuff by putting it online one item after the other. Woot-offs are fun if you’ve been wooting in the past, or if you’re waiting for a specific item (I still want another $79 30gb Zune and a $69 Karcher pressure sprayer). But the biggest draw to the woot-off is the famous Bags of Crap.
Bags of Crap are sold for $1 each with $5 shipping. Since you can only ever order 3 of anything on woot at a time, it’s always best to take the plunge and buy 3 bags of crap for a total outlay of $8. Then you wait. Woot, being the clearinghouse of thousands of items can put just about anything in your bag of crap.
Wooters wait for the bag of crap to come up for sale and it’s such a mad rush to get them, the servers usually go down. In my two years of wooting, I’ve won the bags of crap 3 times. Most recently was two weeks ago. When my 3 bags of crap arrived in a large, 24 pound cardboard box, I was very excited. Here’s what I got (for $8)…:
1. 1-gallon Galvanized Woot bucket (retail - $5)
2. 1 Roomba robotic vacuum cleaner with 2 virtual walls and docking station (retail - $139.00)
3. 1 box of 216 coffee pods for a carafe coffee maker (retail - unknown…)
4. 1 brand new Bulova watch in box w/ retail sticker still attached…..$650.00
I like my bucket. I’ll probably sell the rest on eBay to make up the $8 I had to spend to get it all. Now I just have to wait another 3 months for the next woot-off and hope my fingers are fast enough to get more bags of crap!
